Emergency Shelter

AFG’s shelter provides care for girls and young women aged 15-24 years old. What makes our shelter unique is that we help individuals in need of help, who are not in the foster care system and are too young to be placed in a city shelter and/or may have children of their own up to age 5.

An emergency stay averages between 2 to 3 weeks, and as soon a homeless young woman enters our shelter, we work with her to evaluate her needs and develop an individualized plan with clear goals.

Transition to Independent Living Program

Beyond providing emergency shelter, AFG’s Transition to Independent Living program provides longer-term shelter and support, including acquiring life skills, obtaining employment, continuing their education, and ultimately obtaining safe permanent housing.

From mental health and wellness care to social services and individualized goal setting, AFG helps young women on their journey to successfully transition out of the trauma they are in to a path of independence.

Early Childhood Education Center

The AFG Early Childhood Education Center, Little Dreamers, is a state licensed, high-quality care and learning facility for the children of AFG’s Shelter residents.

Located at AFG, Little Dreamers uses evidence-based programs, where staff develop individual plans for each child to achieve developmental milestones. Providing safe, free childcare is one more way to help young, previously homeless women end their homelessness.
