- Street Outreach: Volunteers go out in AFG vans on the streets of Detroit where they provide “Help Cards”, food, harm-reduction kits, warm clothing, and transportation to young women in crisis or at risk. Learn more about Outreach.
- Mentoring: Our mentoring program pairs caring adults with youth in need of a positive role models.
- Events: Volunteers may serve on fundraising event planning committees or assist with event tasks such as registration, coat check, set up and break down, silent auction, etc.
We are re-launching our Mentoring Program and are looking for both interested men and women who want to volunteer! We are looking for mentors who will work with youth in our Prevention Department and mentors who will work with our Outreach Department, which focuses on youth leaving the juvenile justice system. There are many opportunities to intern at Alternatives For Girls, for students in all majors. Priority is given to students who apply at least 30-45 days before the internship is scheduled to begin. However, fall internship requests are encouraged to be submitted by June 1. Each month at Alternatives For Girls, we open our doors and invite our community in to get to know us. In just one hour, visitors learn more about what we do and our history, hear about volunteer opportunities, and tour our facility.
